Registration is closed! Be on the lookout for a spring 2019 study group!
Scene on Radio, a podcast produced by the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University, released a series called “Seeing White”, in mid-2017. This series focuses on answering three questions:
Where did the notion of “whiteness” come from?
What does it mean?
What is whiteness for?
Starting in January, I’ll be facilitating a weekly study group for white people, based on these podcast episodes. Each week, we’ll listen to one episode in advance of meeting, then we’ll discuss what we heard, bringing our questions, reflections, and ideas to the group. I’ll provide additional resources and action steps to move us from thinking into doing. I’m excited to dive into this thoughtful and important material in community!
When: Thursdays, 2 – 3:30 pm Pacific
Dates: January 10th – April 11th
Where: Zoom (an online video conferencing platform)
Cost: $25 donation per week / $350 total for 14 meetings; sliding scale is available!
What you need: Access to a laptop or computer with Zoom installed, access to the podcast episodes (which can be listened to online or via podcast subscription apps), and a commitment to attend as many of the group meetings as possible (three and a half months is a long time, during which life will probably get in the way, but so long as you make your best effort to attend regularly, you’re golden!).
If you’re a white person who is interested in exploring how whiteness came to be and what that means today, sign up below! You’ll receive specifics about Zoom, donation options, and other tidbits to make this process run smoothly. I hope you’ll join us!
